Favourite Destinations for Day Hikes in

This page is for those (like me) who like nothing better than a day in
the mountains, but whose nearest mountains are a long and wearying drive away
and who happen to live not far from an airport served by one of the low-cost airlines.
It also helps if you can occasionally get away for a couple of days at
short notice and if you keep a watch on the web sites for ridiculously cheap
offers. Check the smaller carriers as well as the obvious ones. Triglav in the The suggestions here are based largely on my own expeditions and on an
assumption of flying out on day one, walking all day two and flying home on day
three, but you can easily lengthen (or possibly shorten) them. One problem in organising such trips is usually uncertainty about local
bus and train connections to the start and end of walks; another is knowing the
